The Micro Trader was damaged when it hit a reef and the repairs were unaffordable for the local government. For nearly two years it was moored, unused, slowly being dismantled for parts to keep its sister ship running. After it broke its moorings during a sever typhoon and got stuck on the shore the government decided to scuttle the ship, which it did in February 2004. It sank upright in 36m of water with its masts just 15m from the surface.
