Saturday morning trip at Porkkkala for KUPLA club P2/P3 divers.
Attendants: me, Leppis, Juhani T, Liisa, Eero, Ella, Alpi
7 divers in total.
Dive site: M451 wreck.
M451 was a WW2 German Navy minesweeper that sank 31st January 1944 south of Mäkiluoto naval fortress due to navigational error. The ship hit rocks and sank quickly. The crew was rescured by the Finnish Navy.
The ship lies at 32 m depth at the military protection zone of Mäkiluoto fortress, and requiring entry permission from the navy. Diving this ship requires special permission from the Military Museum of Finland. Our club has all these permissions.
The wreck had permanent buoys at bow and stern.
I had agreed to be skipper for Hinkki and then drive the boat back to Otaniemi with Leppis.
It was time to get Hinkki back to home base.
I had a tight schedule as I had to attend a party in the evening.
So the schedule was:
10:00 depart Kammio
11:00 Porkala Marin, Hinkki departs
12:00 At M451 and first divers to water
14:00 diving completed, return to harbour
14:30 back at Porkala Marin, drop divers and gear, Hinkki departs
15:30 refuel Hinkki at Lauttasaari
16:00 Hinkki at Otaniemi harbor
Schedule worked out pretty well.
Teams:
1. Liisa, Leppis, Eero
2. Ella, Alpi
3. Ian, Juhani
I had 31% Nitrox at my 2x10L tanks.
Juhani had 32% Nitrox in 2x8.5L tanks.
Our plan was for 50 min dive time.
Visibility was pretty good at the stern where we started, but towards the bow at 30 meters visibility got really bad.
It was an interesting wreck with lots of details to see.

Hinkki consumed 55 liters total, the trip to M451 was probably 25 liters and remaing 30 liters from drive to Otaniemi.
