On Saturday 15.5.2021 I organized the launching of Hinkki boat. We started at 10 am, then lifted the boat on trailer, and then towed it to launch ramp. On previous week we had changed the stern drive oils and painted the bottom, changed new benches, new anodes. I had acquired new rubber mat, fixed the horn, bought new engine spare parts, recharged the batteries.
When we got the boat to water, the engine did start nicely, and I drove it to the pier. Then we started to drain engine oil with a pump, changed the oli filter, fuel filter, water separator filter and added new engine oil.
The boat appeared to be ready for the first dive trip and so we left for the very first boat dive trip to Tiilihylky site at 15:30.
On this trip were 7 divers, me, Olli, Walter, Juhani, Masa (Marcus), Paavo, Kimmo. We reached the site at 16, and the boat did run smoothly. The site is a tiny rock, and NE of it is a small wreck. We dropped anchor west of the rock. Wind was from south.
I dived with Walter and Juhani as the 1st triplet. As Walter was P1, we could not go deeper than 18 m, and the wreck is at 22 m, so we didn’t quite get to see it, but dived the steep rocky dropoff. Visibility was 3 to 4 meters. The dive went without issues and we surfaced after 40 min.
Olli and Kimmo were the last pair in water with a 60 min plan. During their dive, the wind turned from west so we had to lift the anchor a bit, and move the boat towards north. When the guys shot up their SMB, we lifted anchor and prepared to pick the guys up. After that I drove the boat to Lauttasaari ST1 for refueling. Then back to Otaniemi harbour.
