Comments

3rd dive of the trip to Hindenburg wreck.

We had early breakfast at the fish harbour, then Orbiit sailed towards the wreck site of S/S Hindenburg.
Luckily the weather had improved, the wind was mild 4 m/s and waves small, so we were able to dive this wreck which was at open sea.
This was goint to be a 40 m deep Trimix dive. I had prefilled D12 tanks with TMX 18/45 and ALu-7 tank with EAN50 for deco.
The D12 tanks and valves I had just serviced and O2 cleaned before the trip myself.

I agreed to dive with Hannu as he also had Trimix.
We made a plan to dive to 40 meters and start ascent at 25 min runtime, then switch to EAN50 at 21 m, do stops at 12, 9 and finally 6 meters deco 16 min. Plan was done with VPM-B. Total dive time planned 55 min. Hannu had Suunto HelO dive computer, so we agreed that if it gives shorter deco, then we will come up earlier. Hannu did not have suit gas tank, I did. My dive computers were useless for technical dive, so I set my Cobra3 to gauge mode. The Suunto Vyper would go to Error. I decided not to take camera, as this would be the first technical dive for me this year.

We decended in 3 minutes to the wreck at 35 m. The shotline went to the stern part and visibility has great, almost 20 meters. There was still some daylight from above. We quickly swam the 50 meters to the bow which was buried to clay. The bow had exploded when the ship struck a mine. The bow was at 40 meter depth, and then we turned around. Most of the wreck you could dive at 35 meter depth and everything was in good shape and lots of details to be seen. At 19 min we reached the shot line and decided to ascend. Both swapped gast o EAN50 at 21 m/24 min. Then planned stops at 12 and 9 m. Helo gave us only 6 min of deco time at 6 meters. Actual dive time came to only 40 minutes.
I consumed 63 bar of the TMX, and 90 bar of the EAN50.
It was a great dive, but we could have stayed a little bit longer. The plan was to do it again some other day, but we did not manage to do it on this trip.

After the dive I refilled the D12 with 15 bar Helium and topped with air, got TMX 18/35. Filled Alu-7 with O2 and topped with air, got EAN48.
Orbiit started sailing to next site, the wreck of Gävle.
