9. 2021-06-20 D0815 Esperance
9th dive of the trip.
Sunday afternoon dive at L’ Esperance with Rupert. This wreck lies at 45 degree angle on a rocky cliff. The shotline was dropped to the deep end at 30 m. It did not drop quite next to the wreck so we had to find the hull by following debris at the bottom. Visibility was not so great here. We then dives slowly up the wreck to to the top at 11 m, then along the rocky wall to 5 m do a long safety stop, then back to Orbiit.
This ship was a steamship from Belgium that hit nearby rocks 18.10.1901 on rout to Pori. The crew was rescued. This ship finally sank in November 1901. The upper part is badly broken, but the large steam engine can be seen and the lower part of the hull is still in good shape.
After this dive dinner and Orbiit started sailing towards Plus, where we would dive 3rd time on Monday morning as the wind was expected to pick up again.
