Afternoon and evening trip of diving club Kupla with our boat Hinkki.
We were 4 divers: me, Vode, Pasi and Juho. There was an initial plant to do a tec dive on this day, and weather looked perfect. I was on holiday.
There was a lot of discussion on the destination and eventually we decided on Alca. Alca is about one hour drive @22kts to SE from Otaniemi. It is at 40 meters depth, a steamship in fairly good condition.
We left Otaniemi at 14:00. I had TMX 20/32 in my D12 tanks. Pasi and Juho were diving with CCR.
Boat ride to Alca went smoothly. There was a buoy at Alca, os we did not have to search it and could attach our boat. Pasi and Juho went diving first. Then me and Vode. Our plan was to spend 25 min at bottom, then do deco according to ZHL-16C GF=30/85, we both had Shearwater computers. We both had trimix and 50% deco gas.
It was a hot sunny day, 30 deg-C, not much wind, so waiting at the boat was hot even in shorts and t-shirt. I had to go swimming to get a little bit cooled before our turn to go diving. We finally got to water at 17 and dived according to our plan without issues.
At the wreck it was very cold, 3 deg-C, but visibility was quite reasonable, maybe 5 meters. The line was attached at the rear right side, so we checked out first the propeller and the rudder. Then along the right side to the bow, back on the left side. The wreck is about 40 meters long. It was still in a pretty good condition with lot of details to be seen.
We then started driving the boat back around 19, and refueled at Kaivopuisto. We would have stayed for a pizza at Skiffer, but it was full with no parking space left for our boat, so headed back to home harbor. The fuel cost was 112 EU, 28 EUR per diver.
I took pictures with Olympus TG-5 using Nanight Teech-2 light with 55 degree lens.
Location of the wreck:
60° 05.198' N , 25° 24.015' E

The Alca ship sank on 1951-08-27 after it had hit a mine. It was on its way from Gdynia to Kotka with a cargo of coal. The ship did not sink immediately but do to due to sever leaking it eventually sank near the lighthouse of Söderskär. All of the crew was saved.
