On Friday 21.8.2020 it was our team’s turn to wake up early, and now we did the same as the other team yesterday. Departure 7:45. We would go to the Soru harbor at south coast of the island. We would use the Kats-Raudpaths fast RIB boat. We would dive the wrecks of Delphin and S/S Gullkrona, have lunch between wrecks at Soru while waiting our tanks to be refilled. Sergei and Simo would be our boat crew.
It was a sunny and warm day, and the boat ride to Delphin was smooth. Sergei dropped a shotline to the wreck. We later discovered that he had managed to drop it right on top of the bow gun. The boat would no moor, but would circle around the wreck area and pick us up one by one.
Me and Leppis got into water as the last pair. The line led us right o the bow gun at 20 m. Then we went to the bow standing up on the sandy bottom at 27 m. Then to the stern, which was buried in sand at 27 m. It was a bit dark and visibility about 5 to 10 m. We swam around the wreck twice. Then at 26 min the no-deco time was running out as we were diving on Nitrox 32%. We decided to do one more round over the wreck at 20 m, where you just barely saw the deck 5 to 7 m below. Finally at 37 min the no-deco time was zero, so we had to start ascending. It was a good dive for everyone with no problems. So we returned to Soru harbor to have lunch. There was a Jazz festival ongoing at the harbor. There was also a small shop, a big bar and a nice beach.

Notes about the wreck:
The wreck of Delphin stands upright on a sandy bottom at 27 m. The rear part is almost completely buried in sand, while the bow stands up from the sand. At the bow deck there is a gun standing at 20 m depth.
This wreck was only recently discovered by Estonian Navy mine clearing team, when sidescanning the sea floor for old sea mines from WW1 and WW2. This is apparently the wreck of Delphin lost of 14 October 1917 during operation Albion. It was a picket boat of the Imperial German Navy. It was lost on same day as Altair, also a similar picket boat and Altair wreck is located just nearby. We had dived the Altair wreck on a previous trip. Both ships are mentioned in the book: “Battle for the Baltic Islands, 1917: Triumph of the Imperial German Navy” by Gary Staff, 2009.
