First dive of the Åland-2017 trip.

We left the Marienhamn fish boat harbour after breakfast about 9 am, and the dive site was only half an hour away, west side of Yttre Korsö island.
Orbiit was anchored near the shore of island and the fixed buoy leading to the wreck. So from Orbiit there was a short swim.
I dove with Kari, and had D10 tanks full of EAN32. Tanks had been filled at Kuplakammio, and I had just washed and seviced the tanks and valves myself week ago, so they were O2-clean.
Decided not to take camera with me as this was the first dive with newly serviced tanks and valves.
At bubble check noticed that the left first stage was bubbling but we decided that we could manage this dive.

The buoy is fixed to the bedrock at a plateau 10 meters deep. From there a thick rope line leads to the wreck about 3 min swim away, and the bow is at 20 meters. Below the rope you can see the steep rocky hill going down. Visibity was decent, about 5 to 10 meters, good daylight was coming down to 20 meters so you could see pretty well without torches. Stern of the ship is at 30 meters about 10 minute swim from the bow. We swam to the end of the ship on the lower port side, then back on the higher starboard side. On top of the wreck there was lots of silt and visibility only a few meters to zero. The ship was in fairly good condition with lots of intact details.

The sailship Plus was built 1886 in Hamburg at Blohm+Woss. It was a 1117 ton iron clad barque with 4 masts, 71 meters long and 11 meters wide.
It sunk in storm 14th Decemeber 1933. It was empty of cargo and heading towards Marienmahn harbour in hard winter snowstorm. The captain assumed they would get assistance from the Kobbaklinttan pilot station nearby, but it was unmanned at the time because pilots were assisting another ship already and the pilots assumed that nobody else would attempt approach in such a storm. The storm pushed the ship against rocks and it listed severly dropping everything aboard to the sea and then sank on its port side. 12 of the crew perished and only 4 survived.

The ship wreck lies on its port side at 25 degree list, bow towards the island shore at 20 meters deep, the stern is at 30 meters. The masts and all rigging have fallen to the bottom and lie out from the port side. One can see interior of the ship from several places.
