After the previous dive at Leppävaara swimming pool I started to fix the leaks found in my DiveRite model 905 dry suit. I did one more bubble pressure test, and discovered that there actually were two tiny puncture holes at the upper left back side. The seams of both boots were bubbling from all over the rubber seal bands, no wonder why my socs were wet after each dive. The original pink glue in all the seams of the dry suit seemed to be disintegrating. I decided to tear open all the seams and reglue them with Casco S9 Super contact glue. The suspenders also needed to be reglued. In concluded that the only way to fix the boot leaks was to cut them off and reglue them. So that is what I did for several weekends and evenings, regluing the dive suit. Apparently the glue failing this way after 8 to 10 years is typical for this suit. Glues do not last forever.

When the suit repairs were completed, I decided it was time to test dive it. Opportunity came on a Sunday dive trip to Lappohja harbour, where there is a shipwreck next to a pier. During summer there is too much boat traffic and visibility is so poor at this location that diving is not possible. During winter water gets clearer and there is no boat traffic, so it is a perfect winter diving site.

I was at the harbour just before 11:00, and all others came soon. We were 12 divers in total. I agreed to dive in triplet with Eero and Kalle. I tested the suit in the shallow water quickly without diving gear and it seemed that suit was not seriously leaking, so it was safe to go diving. Water and air was +4 degrees, there was light rain. Original plan was to get gate keys to access the main pier, along which the wreck was. Unfortunately, we could not get the key this time, so we had to swim the 300 meter distance from shore to the wreck.

Me, Eero and Kalle decided to swim underwater along the bottom to the wreck. Dive time agreed as 50 min. Eero would navigate with compass, we other would follow. We started dive at 12:58, and after 13 min we finally reached the wreck, which was sitting upright on bottom at 14 meters. I had camera with me and took some photos and videos. On the way the water was cold, but I did not feel any leaks in the suit.

Visibility was not so great, maybe 3 to 5 meters. We circled around the wreck a few times and also went inside the hold from a large opening at the deck. The wooden wreck is in fairly good condition considering the fact that some pier anchors have been dropped on top of it. The hull is intact, the superstuctures a bit broken but still standing. It is a nice and interesting wreck to dive. Some debris on the sides at bottom. At 40 min we started swimming back to our point of entry and found almost to the right spot.

After the dive I undressed the dive suit and did not discover any leaks anywhere. So apparently the repairs worked well, and it is a useable suit again. I have decided to buy a new suit anyway, and this suit will be demoted as a backup. After the dive a was really cold, so it is time to buy a new undersuit as well.
